Individual’s weapon purchase must be on department original letterhead.

The letter is good for 30 days after being issued. 

Assault Weapon Purchase Letter Requirements

 Please ensure that assault weapon letters state the following:

 -List the Make, Model and Serial # of weapon

 -Identifies the individual as a peace officer (PC 830)

-References penal code 30630 that states the Chief/Sheriff is authorizing the officer to purchase

  and possess the specific assault weapon for official duty use.

I hereby certify that  (Officer’s Name) is a full-time paid law enforcement officer as qualified under California Penal Code 830.1, and  is authorized to carry a firearm in the  performance of his/her  duties.

Under the provisions of California Penal Code Section 30630,  I am authorizing the Officer to purchase and register the following “Assault Weapon”.

I certify that  (Officer’s Name) will use the requested firearm in the performance of his official duties. Please waive the ten-day waiting period pursuant to California Penal Code 26950.  Additionally, I certify that a records check has been conducted and ( Officer’s Name) has no convictions or charges for misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.
